Customer solution spotlight – End-to-end satellite communications incorporating Harris’ latest technology
Companies and governments operating in the world’s harshest and most remote locations need a partner they can trust to manage the complexities of a fully integrated communication service.
We understand that customers need one reliable source so they can focus on their mission instead of dealing with the distractions of managing multiple communications vendors. When customers turn to Harris CapRock, they gain the benefit of expertise across multiple communications platforms – satellite, wireless and terrestrial – backed by advanced technology developed by Harris. At the SATELLITE 2012 conference in Washington D.C. last month, Harris demonstrated how the company can bundle powerful new satellite antennas, a unique mobile SATCOM handheld toolkit and Harris CapRock’s managed services to provide complete, end-to-end satellite communications capability.
Reconn Mobile SATCOM Toolkit
Satellite technicians typically carry as much as 160 pounds of test equipment in the field. As mission partners to customers in dispersed sites around the globe, we understand the need for efficient and convenient solutions. Reconn is the first SATCOM toolkit in one handheld device designed to locate, acquire and sustain any SATCOM link. Key features include:
- Leverages user-friendly applications run on a smartphone, which enhances effectiveness and reduces training
- Comes in a single unit weighing less than 8 pounds
- Combines spectrum analyzer, power meter, multimeter, compass, inclinometer, GPS receiver and magnetic declination map
1.3 Meter Tri-Band, Single-Case Satellite Antenna
Military users in rugged, tactical environments need very small aperture terminals (VSAT) with high gain and extreme portability. Harris’ recently developed 1.3-meter Seeker, which supports X-, Ku- and Ka-band communications, offers the highest level of performance available today in a single-case unit. Some of the benefits include:
- Packs in single case small enough to be checked as airline baggage
- Shares common components with other Harris ‘flyaway’ terminals, resulting in scalability and flexibility
- Offers simple frequency and feed swap, superior wind stability and satellite tracking performance, all enabled by center-fed antenna
- Features low power consumption
- Operates without fans, resulting in quiet performance
- Sets up in 10 minutes by one person
Harris CapRock continues to leverage Harris’ expanding technology to provide integrated solutions tailored to customer needs. The team is currently working on a soon-to-be-released .95-meter version of Seeker, which will utilize the same type of architecture and operation as the 1.3-meter unit.
